Art
Pretty much the only piece of my work that survived “The Dark Years”
where I had sorta fallen from grace with my art (or it had fallen from
me, I’m not sure) and had put it all behind me. And really, it’s just a sketch. Not a real piece o’ work. I’d moved several
times in those years, and somewhere along the way I lost all my
work. I’d given this sketch to my sister years ago, and she’d
held onto it.
The sketch was a drawing assignment from Art School in Atlanta. I
think I was 19. Spent maybe 4-5 hours on it. It’s on
Strathmore sketch paper. Drawn with ebony pencil.
An interesting aside to this is that it turns out my Dad did this exact
same drawing when he was in Art School! Neither he nor I had any
idea until I showed it to him. He looked at it and said “Yunno, I
think I did a drawing of her when I was in school”. Off he went,
to rummage amongs all his work (which is consideralbe) and sure enough
there it was. Same drawing. Roughly the same size.
Even done in black ebony pencil. They’re both hanging in my house
today.

After 15 years away from art, I’ve recently started drawing again. I’ve lost a step or two, but I’m not as rusty as I’d feared. I’ll try to post some new sketches when I get a chance.
